 Mumbai Press Photo Contenst 2004 
 The Mumbai Press Photo contest 2004 was held on May 04, 2004. The Judges were Mr. N Ram, Editor of The Hindu andr Mr. Subhash Ghai noted film director. More than 90 photographers with over 3000 photos participated in this event. The judges were so impressed that they gave away the special "Judges' Choice" and "Outstanding Sports Photograph" awards to Mr.Arko Dutta. More.. 
  
 Evening Chats 
 

The cultural wing of the Press Club has organised an evening with renowned Marathi writer Prof. Bhalchandra Nemade. Members had a interaction session with him on that evening. Prof. Nemade is famous for his novels 'Kosala, Bidhar, Jareela and Zool. His famous poetry collections are Melody and Dekhani. He won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1990 for his criticism Teekaswayamvara.

 Screening of Documentary Film 
 

'ITHRAYUM YATHABHAGAM' (The Journey so Far) The cultural wing of the Press Club has screened the Malayalam documentary film 'ITHRAYUM YATHABHAGAM' (The Journey so Far) directed by C. V Sathyan. This film was selected in the Asian Competition section of International Documentary Festival of Keralam.

 Seminar & Exhibition on CAS 
 

A seminar and exhibition was arranged by the Press Club on the subject of 'Conditional Access: Will it Happen? It was based on the ongoing subject of using the Set Top box and the cable connections by the consumer and the major cable operators. Mr. Sameer Nair, Chief Operating Officer, STAR India, Mr. Jawahar Goel, Additional Vice Chairman, ZEE Network, Mr. Neeraj Bhatia, Vice President - Operations, HATHWAY Cable and Datacom, Mr. Dinyar Contractor, Editor, Satellite & Cable TV, Mr. Rajiv Vyas, Chief Executive Officer, In Cable Network were participated at the seminar and exhibited the functioning of the SET TOP box.

 Seminar: "Freedom of the Press & Legislative Privileges" 
 

The Press club has arranged a Seminar: "Freedom of the Press & Legislative Privileges" in association with The Indian Newspaper Society at The Grand Hotel, Mumbai. It was followed by the arrest of Mr. N. Ram, Editor of The Hindu at Chennai by the Tamil Nadu government. Mr. Veerendrakumar, President INS, Mr. Jimmy Pochkhanawala, Senior Counsel Supreme Court of India, Mr. N. Ram, Editor The Hindu, Mr. Aakar Patel, Editor, Mid-Day and Mr. M. J. Akbar, Editor Asian Age were participated at the seminar. The seminar passed a resolution and sent it to all the political parties offices to implement it on their forth-coming election manifestos.

 
   
 Lecture: 'The Travails Of An Honest Police Officer' 
 

The club invited the Mr. Sanjay Pandey, former DCP (Economic Offences Wing) and Mr. Y.P. Singh, Food and Drugs Administration and the CBI for a lecture 'The Travails Of An Honest Police Officer' at the club premises on October 10, 2003 at 5.30 p.m. onwards. The two officers explained their experiences at the profession with club members.

 
   
 Meet-the-Press Programme: Shri Gopinath Munde 
 

The Press Club has invited Shri Gopinath, the newly elected president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra state for a meet-the-press programme. Shri Munde addressed the Mumbai journalists about the new strategy and possibilities of his party for the forth coming general election in April 2004.

 Meet-the-Press Programme: Loksabha Candiates 
 

The Press Club, Mumbai has organised two Meet-the-Press Programmes of Lok Sabha poll candidates on issues concerning Mumbai city. The first meeting was held on April 12, 2004 at 3.00 p.m. at the Club. M/s Milind Deora, Sachin Ahir, Sanjay Nirupam and Jayantiben Mehta were attended the meeting. The second meeting was held on Wednesday April 14, 2004, at 3 pm. and Mr.Aziz Lilani (5 Mumbai South Central) Mr.T.K.Chaudhary (4 Mumbai South) were attend the function.

 
   
 Independence Eve Celebration 
 

The Press Club Mumbai has celebrated the Independence Day. OM-The Fusion Band performed a very good dance programme. In addition to dance, they have given some gazal music also.

The Press Club has arranged an entertainment night 'Calypso Night' in association with the sports channel - Ten Sports: The most attraction of the evening was the West Indies cricketer, Clive Lloyd. It was the first time the ace cricketer visited the club.

 Garba Raas Ramjat: Navratri & Gujarati Food Festival 
 

The Press Club has celebrated the Navratri Festival at the first time in its history. Around 400 members and their spouses were enjoyed the night with traditional Gujarati Garba Raas Ramjat and delicious Gujarati Food Festival also.

The Club has inaugurated Theatre Circle on November 14, 2003 at 8.00 p.m. to encourage dramas and stage programmes. The opening show was Shivani Tibrewala's "help desk".

 
   
 2004 New Year's Bash 
 

The Press Club has celebrated the New Year Eve programme on December 31, 2003 at 8.30 p.m. onwards in association with STAR INDIA television cahnnel. Around 450 members and their spouses were welcomed YEAR 2004 with colourful fireworks and music. D.J. Carl performed the special music for the night.

 
   
 Mumbai Moments : Press Club Calander 2004 
 

In the 32-year history of the Press Club, it is the first time we have introduced a quality calander 2004 Mumbai Moments in association with Bank of Baroda. Nine photojournalists, observed the wonderful moments of the city, which we have incorporated with the calander 2004. The photographers were, Fawazan Husain (India Today), Neeraj Priyadarshi (Indian Express), Rajan Chaughule (Bombay Times), Mahendra Parikh ((Indian Express), Nitin Sonawane (Mid-Day, now with Economic Times), Pradeep Kocharekar (Indian Express), Vikas Khot (Freelance - now with Indian Express) Sudharak Olwe (Sunday Times of India) and Jayprakash Kelkar (Mumbai Samachar).

On Saturday December 27, 2003 at 7.30 p.m. Mr. Prem Khatri, Head Marketing Bank of Baroda has released the calander 2004 'Mumbai Moments'. He has also inaugurated the 'Exhibition of the Photographs' at the Club premises.

 
   
 Press Club Meida Guide : 'The Media In Mumbai' 
 

The Press Club, Mumbai has released a Media Guide called "The Media In Mumbai" this year. It is the first time in the history of the Club. It includes Mumbai Media addresses, telephone numbers, e-mails, corporate addresses and their contact persons. It also has the list of Club members. It is a valuable book for the corporate world. The Media In Mumbai has released by Mr. Peter Mukherjea, CEO STAR India at the club premises on March 12, 2004 at 8.00 p.m. The book is for sale at a cost of Rs. 75 for Club members & Rs. 350 for others.

 
   
 Housing Project For Journalists 
 

The managing committee of the club has initiated a 'housing project' for the journalists in Mumbai. Hon. Secretary of the Club and a team met Mr. Madhu Chavan, Chairman MHADA and Mr. U.P.S. Madon, CEO MHADA in September - October for a housing scheme for the working journalists in Mumabi. The response was positive and the so-called officers came to the Club and announced a Housing Project For Journalists on October 15, 2003 at 12.30 noon.

A prescribed form was circulated among the members and around 450 members submitted their application forms. Again on November 14, 2003 a 'site visit' to inspection of tenements was arranged with the help of MHADA at Mahalaxmi, Pratiksha Nagar, Sion, Dindoshi and Malad. Now the project is in consideration with the government of Maharashtara and we hope that it will be sorted out at the earliest.

 
   
 Art of Living Course 
 

Considering today's pressured times and the stress faced by those especially working in the Media, The Press Club arranged An Art of Living for five days at the Club premises. Mr. Himanshu Kapadia from Concept PR Agency was the convenor for this programme. It was a grand success and many of our members participated at this 'yoga' programme.

The 5 days work-shop has begun from April 6 - 10, 2004 at 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

 
   
 Kavi Sammelan 
 

The Press Club has arranged a national Hindi Kavi Sammelan in first time in its 32-year history. The chief guest has released a souvenir, "Kavita 2004" on that occasion. Many of our members, Sanjay Masoom, Devendra Mohan, Omprakash Tiwari, Kailash Sengal were contributed their poems to the souvenir. The Chief Guest was the honourable chief minister of Maharashtra Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Participants: Shri Ashok Chakradhar, Shri Sunil Jogi (New Delhi), Hariom Pawar (Uttar Pradesh), Nida Fazli (Mumbai), Bashir Chandra (Madhya Pradesh) and our Club Sanjay Masoom, Devendra Mohan, Omprakash Tiwari, Vageesh Saraswat etc. The programme held on January 00, 2004 at K. C. college auditorium, Churchgate, Mumbai.

 Friday Night Fever 
 

This programme will be in every month especially on Friday nights with music, chats and leisure.

The programme launched on Friday August 29, 2003 at 8.30 p.m. by the big screen hero, Govinda at the club. He himself sang and danced with the Club members. The Music was presented by Arvind Mukhedkar's 'Saregama'.

 Film Circle 
 

The Club's Managing Committee has appointed Mr. Rafique Baghdhadi as a convenor for the Film Circle to show the classic films including documentary to our members in every month. The Film Circle launched on September 13, 2003 at the Club premises by the famous Director Kundan Shah.
